PROHS is a company specialized in developing and manufacturing hospital, laboratory and veterinary equipment in the area of disinfection and sterilization.
Covering all the needs of a central sterilization service (RUMED), PROHS stands out for its ability to design, produce and install Central Sterile Services Departments adapted to the needs and requirements of each Hospital or Clinic.
In the laboratory area, we follow and advise our customers from an embryonic stage to develop a tailored solution reaching the sterilization and disinfection needs of each project.
The constant investment in R&D and the partnerships with developing departments of some leading universities in Europe, allows PROHS to keep its products up-to-date and competitive, assuring that our sterilizers and washer disinfectors stay modern, efficient, and capable of adjusting to the demanding needs of the medical and laboratory sector.

History
Establishment of José dos Santos Monteiro Lda – In 1967 José Monteiro established the company José dos Santos Monteiro (JSM) to manufacture and distribute hospital furniture with emphasis in the operating room.
First Vertical Autoclave – After the Portuguese revolution and due to changes in the country, JSM extends its equipment's range and produces the first vertical autoclave.
First Horizontal Autoclave — It is in the beginning of this decade that the production of the horizontal sterilizer starts, later this product would be the most highlited on the internationalization process.
Certification of the Productive Process — In the final of the 90’s José dos Santos Monteiro, Lda, gets the certification of their products.
Foundation of PROHS — PROHS is founded as a strategic process of modernization and renewal of the company’s image, becoming responsible for the distribution the JSM brand.
Acquisition and restructuring – PROHS acquires 55% of the José dos Santos Monteiro Ltda., now combining the control of both, production and distribution, PROHS sets a new objective – the internationalization.
Beginning of the Internationalization — In 2004 Prohs participates as exhibitor in the international Fair FILDA – International Fair of Luanda, in Angola, resulting in its first direct sale outside of national territory.
First International tender – In 2005 enters the Mozambican market, by presenting a proposal for an international tender for Medical Equipment, resulting in a win and 75 vertical sterilizers sold.
First MEDICA – PROHS intensifies its internationalization process by participating as an exhibitor at the world’s biggest international fair of medical equipment – MEDICA in Dusseldorf, Germany.
New facilities – In 2008 PROHS acquires the facilities where it currently operates, with an area of about 2200 square meters, transforming the company into a modern, and appealing work space.
Sterilization World Congress – In 2011 we decided participate actively in the Sterilization International Congress , held in Cascais – Portugal.
Global Affirmation – After its first sale to New Zealand PROHS reaches the goal of introducing their products in 5 continents. The company is now a reference as exporter of hospital equipment.

PROHS IN THE WORLD
At start of the twenty-first century PROHS begins its process of internationalization focusing initially on the countries belonging to the PALOP (Portuguese-Speaking African Countries), being Angola and Mozambique the most targeted markets.
This strategy was reinforced in middle of the decade when the participates for the first time as exhibitor on MEDICA in Dusseldorf, the world’s largest health exhibition fair. Since then, the presence in this annual exhibition has been constant, allowing us to generate contacts and business around the world
Nowadays, the company partakes as exhibitor in several Medical and laboratory fairs, this allows us to expand and consolidate our global presence, consolidating and expanding our partnerships abroad.
Currently PROHS, through its network of distributors, has partners in more than 50 countries in several geographic areas, with presence in the 5 continents.
PROHS goal for its international future is to strengthen the competitive, rigorous and innovative image achieved in recent years, as well as its market share in the countries where it is present. On the other hand, the company faces the challenge of continuing its geographical expansion in a sustainable manner, both in the hospital sector and in the laboratory sector.
